6-Day Marangu Route Kilimanjaro Climbing

Trip Overview

The Marangu route, a 6-day hike, is regarded as the simplest way to reach Kibo, Mount Kilimanjaro’s summit. Only the Marangu Route has comfortable beds at every camp. The Marangu route is well-developed because it offers hut accommodations and has consistent, moderate hiker traffic. When compared to other Kilimanjaro climbing trails, the summit approach is regarded as one of the most difficult because it requires dedication. The lodging on the Marangu route is in sparse mountain huts, which could be preferable to the campground.

Your transfer specialist will meet you at the Kilimanjaro Airport promptly upon arrival, extend a warm welcome, and then drive you to the Moshi or Arusha hotel of your choice. Your mountain guide will meet you that evening to give you a hike briefing, check your trekking supplies, and make sure you have everything you need to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

You will be travelling to the Marangu gate, located 1,840 metres up Mount Kilimanjaro National Park, after enjoying a delicious breakfast at the hotel. At Marangu Gate, a lunch box will be provided for you. You will soon be hiking through the Montana forest or rainforest after registration and the weighing of the luggage for the porters have been completed. You might see black and white colobus monkeys scurrying through the dense forest on your way to the camp. You will arrive at Mandara Hut, your first day’s camp in the Montana forest. Following a delicious dinner, your guide will meet you for a briefing on the hike for the following day.

After a delicious breakfast in the morning, you will soon leave Mandara Hut and be able to see the tree line, where the vegetation zone begins to transition to shrubs. At an elevation of roughly 3,720 metres above sea level, the Horombo Camp will be visible 4 to 6 hours later. You will have breath-taking views of Mawenzi peak and Kibo peak from the Horombo camp.

The climb from Horombo hut to Zebra rock on this better acclimatisation day will help your body adjust to the high altitude. Acclimatization is extremely important because it increases your likelihood of reaching the summit. You will hike for at least two to three hours to Zebra Rocks, 3,980 metres, after eating breakfast and relaxing. The name of the rock formation comes from the distinctive black and white stripes. A cooked lunch will be waiting for you when you get back to Horombo Hut. The afternoon is free for you to unwind so you can recharge for the hike the next day.

You will start your hike to Kibo Hut after an early breakfast. Today’s hike is difficult and involves passing through the “last water point” and the alleged “saddle.” This nearly plant-free plateau connects Mawenzi and Kibo’s summit. Kibo Hut is the destination for today, and it will take 5 to 6 hours to get there. You eat dinner early tonight so that you can get a good night’s sleep before getting up at midnight.

The summit final is today, which is the “long day.” You’ll set out in the middle of the night while the lava ash is still frozen, making it easier to pass through. You will start your arduous ascent to the summit in the dark. At 5,200 metres, the Hans Meyer cave is passed as the hike steadily ascends. You will arrive at Gilman’s Point, located 5,715 metres above the crater rim, at sunrise. You will soon start to feel warm, and another hour or two will pass before you reach Uhuru Peak, which is 5,895 metres above sea level. You are currently on “The Top of Africa.” The same trails are used for the descent, and since the lava ash has melted, the descent will be swift. A hot lunch and a chance to rest while regaining your strength are waiting for you when you return to Kibo Hut. You will return to the 3,700-meter Horombo Hut, where you will arrive in the evening, after a one-hour break.

On the final day, return through the moor and heather region to the Mandara Hut, 2,700 metres above sea level, where you will receive a cooked lunch. You will return to the lush tropical rainforest after lunch, and after about four hours of hiking, you will be back at the Kilimanjaro National Park gate, at an altitude of 1,860 metres. You will be transferred to a hotel in Moshi or Arusha after your guide signs the certificate, where you can unwind by the pool or toast your accomplishment after a warm shower.

You will be promptly transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport following your morning meal, or you can stay longer in Tanzania by adding a safari and a vacation to Zanzibar.
