7-Day Rongai Route Kilimanjaro
Trip Overview
Rongai route for 7 days The Rongai route is a breathtakingly awesome trek that ascends Mount Kilimanjaro’s dry, northeastern side from a less-traveled route. The hiker begins near the Kenyan border and offers fascinating views of Mawenzi Peak and the African sky. The trails wind through lush forests, a rain forest, and an alpine desert. They are well-maintained. Although the Rongai route on Mount Kilimanjaro can generally be regarded as an equally easy route, the stages of the rock in the summit area can occasionally be a little more physically taxing. After reaching the summit, the route down follows the Marangu route and travels through trails through a lush Montana forest. On the entire climb and even when descending, hikers will stay in mountain tents.
Your transfer specialist will meet you at the Kilimanjaro Airport promptly upon arrival, extend a warm welcome, and then drive you to the Moshi or Arusha hotel of your choice. Your mountain guide will meet you that evening to give you a hike briefing, check your trekking gear, and make sure you have everything you need to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.
After eating breakfast, you will be driven across Mount Kilimanjaro to the mountain’s northwest region, where you will arrive at the Nalemoru Gate after 4 hours. Your real adventure will start once registration is complete and all the luggage has been distributed among the porters. Before entering the sparse mountain forest zone, where black and white colobus monkeys are frequently spotted, the trail passes alongside mountain farmers, fields, and pine forests. You will arrive at the Simba Camp, where you will spend the night, after a roughly three to four-hour hike.
You will begin your ascent to the Second Cave camp, which is 3,450 mitres above sea level and offers stunning views of Kibo and the eastern ice fields on the crater rim, after breakfast. You can relax at the camp during your free time after eating a hot lunch, and in the afternoon you can go for a three-hour acclimatisation walk to the Third Cave.
The typical landscape vegetation will soon vanish, leaving only the occasional rock formation and a more desolate landscape. When the weather is good, you can take in the breathtaking views of Kenya’s savannah grasslands and the summits of Kibo and Mawenzi. You will arrive at the Kikelelwa camp after navigating a few more rock formations.
The typical landscape vegetation will soon vanish, leaving only the occasional rock formation and a more desolate landscape. When the weather is good, you can take in the breathtaking views of Kenya’s savannah grasslands and the summits of Kibo and Mawenzi. You will arrive at the Mawenzi Hut after navigating a few more rocky outcrops. It is the camp on Mount Kilimanjaro that many mountain hikers find to be the most evocative.
On a relatively simple trail, today’s leg will bring you over the Kibo Saddle. Absence lof vegetation is one of the characteristics for the landscape here as only a few types of grass and other plant species can get along in this dry area and thin air. Just before today’s destination is reached, one last rock passage has to be conquered. Finally, you will reach the School Hut, where you can calm and mentally prepare yourself for tomorrow’s summit final.
The trek begins at approximately midnight, and it takes 5 to 7 hours to reach Gillman’s Point (5,715 mitres) at the crater’s edge. You will be warmed by the sunrise as you continue to ascent for another one to two hours until you reach Uhuru Peak and can finally stand on “Africa’s highest mountain.” You will reach the Kibo hut in the late morning after making the descent on the now-thawed lava ash, which follows nearly the same path. After a filling break and a hot lunch, the descent will continue to the Horombo Hut.
You will return to the Marangu Gate in the early afternoon after trekking for about 5 hours after breakfast and conquering the straightforward descent. The transfer will take you to the pre-arranged hotel for a leisurely morning by the pool and a long shower while you wait for your guide to sign for your certificate and hand it to you.
You will be promptly transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport following your morning meal, or you can extend your stay in Tanzania by including a safari and a trip to Zanzibar.
Start and end in Arusha
